THE BEST BACARI IN RIALTO, according to Venice Local Fusion
THE BEST BACARI IN RIALTO,
*ACCORDING TO VENICE LOCAL FUSION
Forget fancy wine bars. We're talking old-school Venetian bacari, local wine and cicchetti that are ugly but delicious!
First, let's get one thing straight: we're not claiming to be the ultimate judges of Venetian food and wine.
That's why this list is called "According to Venice Local Fusion."
There are plenty of other great bacari out there, so feel free to share your own favorites in the comments. We're always happy to discover new spots!
But if you find yourself around, you simply can't leave without stopping at least once in one of its historic bacari.
We're talking about the old, dark, tiny taverns tucked away in narrow alleys — the kind of places you might walk right past if you don't know what you're looking for. This is one of the oldest parts of Venice, where traces of the city's old-school nightlife are still very much alive.
Here are some of the historic spots where we Venetians like to stop:
- ๐ฉ OSTERIA AI PUGNI
- ๐ฉ
CANTINA DO SPADE
- ๐ฉ AL REFOLO
- ๐ฉ AL DIAVOLO E L'ACQUASANTA
- ๐ฉ AL BANCOGIRO
- ๐ฉ ALL'ARCO
- ๐ฉ CANTINA DO MORI
- ๐ฉOSTERIA AL PONTE
- ๐ฉAL PARADISO PERDUTO
- ๐ฉBACARO RISORTO
And just to be clear: we're talking traditional osterie, not fancy cafés or polished cocktail bars. Expect local wine, sometimes straight from the demijohn, and cicchetti that might not win any beauty contests but taste absolutely delicious.
After all, it's what's inside that counts, right? ๐
WHAT SHOULD YOU ORDER?
Don't leave without trying some Venetian classics:
- Sarde in Saor – sweet-and-sour sardines with onions, raisins and pine nuts.
- Baccalà Mantecato – creamy whipped salted cod, usually served on bread or polenta.
- Sepe in Nero – cuttlefish cooked in its own ink.
- Mezo Vovo co l'Aciuga – half a hard-boiled egg topped with anchovy.
- Fried sardines and, of course, Venetian-style sandwiches (tramezzini).
๏ปฟTHE GOLDEN RULE
Close Google Maps and get lost in the narrow streets!
That's how you'll stumble upon some of the best little places.
And prices? You might still find cicchetti starting at €2 and a small glass of wine (ombra) from €1.50. Yes, starting at… I said starting at! Prices change, so don't take these as a promise.
One last thing: enjoy the wine, enjoy the food, and drink responsibly!
Now go explore, taste, and let us know what you think. Cin cin! ๐
